Professional Development

Our Southwest Chapter received a BRONZE status in the 2018-2019 IIDA Chapter Awards.  Thank you to all who helped to make this possible!

IIDA Southwest Chapter believes in the importance of professional development. Learning opportunities are available in several formats to enable IIDA Members to fulfill their CEU compliance requirement and advance their knowledge base within the design industry. We are confident you will find what you need to accommodate your specific learning needs.

More information about learning opportunities can be found at the IIDA Headquarters website.

Professional Development
Understanding the value of continuing education and research has been the mainstay of IIDA since its inception. Educated practitioners make informed, safe and creative decisions, which affect us all. Educational programs serve as a creative outlet to promote awareness regarding pertinent issues within the practice of Interior Design. See events on our Chapter Calendar.

Student Affairs
IIDA believes in the advancement of education and the Southwest Chapter supports interior design students throughout the region with student events and programming. Every year, we provide activities such as student portfolio reviews with designers, firm crawl tour, and the Annual Student Charette, etc. Events can be viewed via Chapter Calendar.

Member Appellations
IIDA members in good standing can use the member appellations after you name.  These show prospective employers and peers you have the qualifications necessary for the design profession. Check out the Member Appellations Chart for details.

NCIDQ Examination & Council for Interior Design Qualification (CIDQ)

The National Council for Interior Design Qualification serves to identify to the public those interior designers who have met the minimum standards for professional practice by passing the NCIDQ Examination. The core purpose of NCIDQ is to protect the health, life safety and welfare of the public by establishing standards of competence in the practice of interior design.

CEUs – Continuing Education

Continuing education strengthens the interior design profession by improving individual attitudes, competencies, knowledge and skills in specific subject areas essential to interior design. Learning experiences focus on the individual and involve activities that encompass thinking, doing and reflection.  IIDA Professional and Associate Members are required to complete and report 1.0 CEU (10 hours) of Continuing Education every two years. All Professional and Associate Members (active and inactive) including Educators, IIDA Fellows and Chapter Officers must adhere to IIDA compliance requirements.  To verify the current compliance period, click here.  IIDA accepts all IDCEC approved courses.  For more information about IDCEC, click here.

CIDA  – Council for Interior Design Accreditation

The Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA) is an independent, non-profit accrediting organization for interior design education programs at colleges and universities in the United States and internationally. For more than 35 years, this knowledge-driven organization has been passionately committed to the ongoing enrichment of the interior design profession through identifying, developing and promoting quality standards for the education of entry-level interior designers, and then encouraging, accrediting and supporting educational programs to aspire to those standards.

CIDA is always looking for qualified practitioners and educators who are interested in serving as site visitors to interior design programs seeking accreditation. Being a CIDA site visitor is an enriching opportunity that involves interacting with students and meeting new colleagues.
